A note from the Author:

My name is Lora-Lee McCracken, and I have six children. In meeting them I have experienced the extremes of childbirth: from the brutally interfered with, to the blissful, sensuous and secret. I have ultimately learned that the medical model of birth is based on false hospital outcomes; doctors know how bedridden patients give birth, but they don't know how women give birth. The medical model cuts and slices at the very heart of childbirth: birth needs healing; birth needs protecting; birth needs loving- that's why I wrote this book.

In it, two grand multiparas detail their birth stories; and in our twelve births, my friend Jamie and I have had every birth experience known to man and midwife (except forceps). In Dads and Childbirth men are asked to resume their traditional role in childbirth- to protect their women. In Resexualizing Childbirth women can learn about their own innate birthing powers, and how to check their own cervixes. In
Don't Be Afraid! I talk about what birth sensations really do feel like- if one abandons fear and insecurity. Midwife Gloria Lemay adds her wisdom and outstanding birthing knowledge in the pieces The Case for Midwives and Q&A with Gloria Lemay. Peeing With the Bathroom Door Open is a bit of a light touch, with a thoughtful point. Getting to 'No' You is a discourse of the personal power I've finally grown into, and the book concludes with a Declaration of the Rights of Childbearing Women.

I try to teach all that I've learned- I try my hardest to convince women of the beauty of birth, and the sanctity of self- and I fervently hope they listen.
