Update on the
Yvonne Cryns case: 8/4/2001
We are completely out of money. The prosecution says it will retry the case. The next court hearing is on Sept. 21, 2001. These hearings are simply to try to arrange a date for a new trial. There is a question whether our attorneys can continue to defend since we cannot pay them. So, where do we go from here? Even if an attorney were to take on the case at no charge, the trial expenses for witnesses and other expenses will be over $20,000. So, what does an innocent person do in a situation like this? It is easy to suggest that Yvonne make a "guilty" plea, especially since we are not in her shoes. If you were charged with child molestation and knew you were innocent, would you make that plea? Frankly, our experience with the justice system is less than encouraging, to say the least. If one is wrongfully accused and brought to trial, the best one can hope for is to stay out of jail while going bankrupt. |
