Home Remedies for Nail Fungus

The best home remedy for nail fungus is to actually try and prevent it to begin with. This isn't always possible of course, and not practical for someone who already has the problem.

There are actually several types of home remedies for nail fungus which have been reported to be quite useful to a large variety of people. Not every remedy works as well for everyone, but in most cases there are several things that seem to work for the majority of people who have tried them.

If you haven't developed nail fungus problems yet though, you can help yourself avoid the issue with just a little bit of work. If you wear gym shoes or other tight

fitting closed shoes for many hours of the day, try to wear socks which allow your feet to breathe and stay dry better. Air your feet out as often as you can, and be sure to keep them clean too. Don't wear shoes that are too tight for you either, and if you use public areas such as locker rooms and gym showers, try to wear sandals or flip flops on your feet to prevent catching fungus from someone else that may have it.

Now if you do have nail fungus problems already, you need to realize it may take a long time to get the problems fully resolved. Some people have reported home and herbal remedies that work as quickly as one week, but in most cases it can take more than nine months to fully resolve the problem, because you have to wait for completely new nails to grow in uninfected.

With that said though, one of the best home remedies for treating nail fungus is to simply let your nails get exposed to sunlight. Fungus bacteria cannot live in the light of the sun. They need warmth, moisture, and darkness. The sun takes that all away from them them, providing light, dryness, and heat instead of warmth.

Vicks vapor rub. The stuff that is usually used for chest colds and congestions, is said to be an excellent home remedy for nail fungus problems. The reason this probably works is because Vicks has Eucalyptus oil and Camphor as two of it's primary ingredients. Eucalyptus is a known antiseptic plant, and camphor is often used as a bug repellent... the smell apparently drives pests away.

Listerine mouthwash is another popular home remedy treatment for nail fungus. This mouthwash is a strong antiseptic, and this can help kill the fungus bacteria growing under your nails.
